Jon Jasper: Living Life to the Fullest

Article from the Jasper Journal 3rd Quarter 2018
Written by: Jane E. Jasper-Campbell

On June 3, I got the call that no one wants to get. My brother-in-law was on the other end of the phone and said, “Your dad has been in a motorcycle accident. We know he’s in trauma and that he’s stable, but that’s all we know.”

My mom (Jon’s wife of almost 50 years) was with my family at dinner, so the two of us along with my two oldest children left immediately to go the hospital. When we arrived we found Daddy (or Jon Jasper, the founder of Jasper Ventures, as most of you know him) in the ER. He was ALIVE, and at that point that was all that mattered. We did not know the extent of his injuries (which by the way could and should have been much worse, considering), but he was alive. We got to tell him we loved him, pray with him, and sit by his side. And that was enough for me. I was grateful.

My Daddy has been called “the man with nine lives” more times than I can count. I probably don’t know all the “death-defying acts” he pulled off as a child, but I do remember the close calls that have occurred in my lifetime. Some of the big ones include being bit by a copperhead snake, getting hit by a jet ski, and Grade IV brain cancer (two major brain surgeries in five months). Now he’s added a motorcycle accident to the list.

Ron Wells, a pastor and dear friend of the Jasper family, came to see Daddy the day after his accident and shared a quote by George Whitfield, an evangelist from the 18th century: “We are immortal until our work on earth is done.” I love this! Daddy’s work is not done! He doesn’t have nine lives – he has one, and he’s still living it to the fullest until the Lord calls him home.

Daddy has recovered quickly. He probably doesn’t think so, but for his age and injuries I think he has done amazingly well. He had a punctured lung, broken ribs, a broken scapula, and some pretty severe road rash. He was bruised and sore pretty much everywhere but his head (thank you helmet!). He spent a week in the hospital, a week in the rehabilitation hospital, and has been recovering at home since June 16.

THANK YOU ALL for your love, care, concern, texts, calls, meals, rides, thoughts, and prayers. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for our Jasper Ventures Family! You all have been so wonderful, and we want you all to know that we are grateful for each and every one of you.

You too are immortal until your work here on earth is done. Only God knows when that is, so get to it. Do the work the Lord made you to do and do it well.

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” Colossians 3:23

Update: Jon was able to return to work full-time within a few short weeks of the accident. Considering all of the injuries he sustained, it is amazing to see him walking around as though it never happened. We are thankful to God for his protection over Jon and His hand in Jon’s speedy recovery.
